Community-Based, Trauma-Informed
Yoga and Breathwork
Ahimsa
Ahimsa (अहिंसा) is a Sanskrit word for non-violence—first to our selves and then to others. This is the guiding philosophy of all Project Ahimsa’s work.
In yoga philosophy, ahimsa is one of the five yamas, ethical principles that are the first of eight limbs of yoga. In a culture that demands we push through and produce, ahimsa invites us to listen to our bodies and to give ourselves permission to rest, modify, and breathe.
Yoga Offerings
Project Ahimsa offers community-based, trauma-informed yoga classes in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area. Through inclusive language and choice-based cues, we strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome.
Whether you’re hosting a neighbourhood event, birthday celebration, workplace wellness day, or other gathering, we can shape a class that fits your group and timeframe. Past bookings include yoga in the park; queer, trans, and allies yoga; and pranayama for mental health therapists.
With flexible class pricing, we can accommodate every budget.
Pranayama
Yogic breath-work to reduce stress, balance energy, and improve focus.
One of the eight limbs of yoga, pranayama is a practice focused on consciously regulating the breath, preparing the mind for dhyana (meditation). Pranayama builds a steady awareness that extends beyond the mat.
Gentle Yoga
Low-impact movement to connect with the body and unwind.
Gentle yoga guides participants through foundational yoga poses and sequences, like surya namaskar (sun salutations), at an accessible pace. Whether your group is new to yoga or returning to the practice, these classes make space to move with intention and build body awareness.
Hatha/Vinyasa Flow
Dynamic movement to enhance strength, balance, and flexibility.
Rooted in classical Hatha poses, these classes join breath and movement together in a Vinyasa flow-style practice. Participants will move through sequences that challenge the body while cultivating mindfulness. Suitable for groups with some yoga experience, though all are welcome.
Certification
Trained in Rishikesh, India—the yoga capital of the world—and registered through Yoga Alliance
